It was a historic day for Pembrokeshire Junior Chess Club when they played their first ever match against Castell Nedd Juniors.

This took place at the home of Pembrokeshire Chess, Kensington Court in Steynton. Thanks are given to the venue, as well as club president Margaret Baron and Callum Babb for helping on the day.

The match comprised of eight-a-side with four matches played and the playing order rotated. It was a fantastic advert for junior chess with the standard of play being excellent and exemplar on the top few boards considering their age.

The Pembrokeshire team comprised of some experienced players and beginners to Chess. The winner on the day was undoubtedly Chess, with everyone enjoying the occasion and opportunity to play different opponents.

Coach and organiser Martin Jones thanked Claire Gorman and Hywel Griffiths for bringing their Juniors down. Later in the year there will be a return fixture arranged.
