Carmarthenshire County Council wishes to say a huge thank you to all staff and residents who worked tirelessly responding to the very difficult conditions during Storm Darragh and to those who remain heavily involved with the recovery work, which we appreciate continued into another weekend and which may well be a challenge for many more weeks to come.
The storm disrupted several Council services - from highways and social care to many buildings having to close their doors, whilst the Local Authority’s leisure centres were stood up as drop-in centres, providing a lifeline for many residents who were without electricity and other utilities.
Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, Cllr Darren Price said: “On behalf of the County Council I would like to say how grateful we are of the effort of our staff. There are so many that I could mention, and I would be here for a long time going through every service impacted.
“How they responded was something they should all be very proud of. We have heard about so many examples of staff who went over and above their everyday roles, you know who you are, thank you.
“I would also like to thank our communities, residents and volunteers who have selflessly gone the extra mile during this last week to check on vulnerable neighbours, helped clear trees from the roadways and opened additional drop-in centres within their communities.
“This past week has been a stressful and difficult time for many, however once again our staff and residents have shown what a great team we are, working together under difficult conditions and adapting to ever-changing situations.
