Since Friday evening, Carmarthenshire County Council’s staff and residents from across communities have worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and continue to do so in order to clean up following Storm Darragh.
Staff, with the support from tree contractors, are clearing approximately 300 trees from the road network and have reopened almost all A and B roads in the county. The Council is currently working throughout the day to clear minor and unclassified roads, which we anticipate may take several days to clear the backlog and remove all obstructions from the highway.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Leisure Centres in Amman Valley, Carmarthen, Llandovery, Llanelli, Newcastle Emlyn and St Clears Leisure Centres will continue to remain open until 10.30pm tonight (Monday, December 9), as drop-in centres for residents.
The support available at the Drop-in Centres include support such as providing a warm space with hot drinks, charging facilities for electric devices, hot water for people to bring their own flasks and take home, and use of shower facilities.
In addition to our home care staff normal duties, our team went above and beyond to ensure that the needs of our service users were met.
Moving forward, an unprecedent amount of property related issues are being reported. We ask that all minor repairs are reported online and that emergency matters are reported via phone 01267 234567
Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, Cllr Darren Price said: “I am humbled by the efforts of our staff who have gone above and beyond to deliver essential Council services to our residents, in the midst of the Red, Amber and Yellow Weather Warnings that brought Storm Darragh this weekend.
“On behalf of the County Council, I would like to thank them all for their incredible work. You are a credit to Carmarthenshire and we are very proud and grateful to you. Diolch o waelod calon.”
Residents are asked to continue to be kept informed of Council support and action due to the aftermath of Storm Darragh by visiting the Council website and social media.
