Glynneath may boast top Welsh comedian Max Boyce as their president, but it was Tenby United who had the last laugh on Saturday as they clocked up a confidence-boosting 16 points to nine win over the Vale of Neath side.
The smiles of the Seasiders broadened further still when news was received that fellow basement battlers Felinfoel had lost, for it meant the United had grabbed a slender lifeline in the fight for National League division three survival.
Star of the show for Tenby was undoubtedly centre Dean Bowen who rifled over two magnificent long-range penalties and a mid-range drop goal to seal the win, but at its heart this was also an outstandingly confident and gutsy 110 per cent team performance from the Seasiders.
The United eight were solid in the scrums from the outset, showing no signs of intimidation from the bigger Glynneath pack, while front row trio of Mark Badham, Richard Rossiter and Lee Tucker worked tirelessly in the loose and contested every 50/50 ball.
Tucker also made plenty of yardage with the ball in hand, as did number eight Justin Richards, who was also impressive around the breakdown alongside hard-working skipper Nicky Allen and a doggedly determined Mike Evans.
Chris Brace and Paul Broaders were positively spring-loaded in the linesout, creaming the lion's share of possession, which was used wisely by innovative half-backs Oliver and Sion Brace to keep the United going forward.
Bowen and co-centre Dylan Lawrence tackled tenaciously in midfield and were always looking to run at the visitors, while wings Nicky Rees and Chris Williams, along with Ryan Lawrence - who took over from Williams midway through the first half - provided effective cover wide out.
Jamie Chandler was also effective at fullback and created problems for Glynneath when he joined the line for the Seasiders.
Tenby were also aided by Glynneath's ability to self-destruct whenever they got into promising positions, their frustration with the resiliant United defence boiling over into unforced errors and misdemeanours which enabled Bowen to relieve the pressure with his siege-gun boot.
Bowen, Lawrence and Brace all tested the visitors in the opening stages, but it was Glynneath who came closest when wing Tony Venn broke through on the short side.
Although Chandler was judged to have illegally impeded the wing as he chipped ahead, Tenby did well to wrestle possession back as the visitors tried a quick tap.
However, Glynneath scrum-half David Harrett launched a counter which almost netted the visitors a try, but they were unable to ground the ball from a rolling maul in the corner.
Both teams continued to test each other in the opening quarter, but it was not until the half-hour mark that the first points appeared on the board when Harrett slotted over a penalty for the visitors.
Tenby regrouped, with excellent support play gaining the team a solid foothold in Glynneath territory.
More good work from the United netted them a lineout near the corner, with Broaders taking a sound catch to send Tucker over for a try.
Bowen converted to give the Seasiders a 7-3 advantage.
In the closing stages of the half, Ryan Lawrence replaced Williams on the wing, but Williams made a quick return, coming back on minutes later as a blood replacement for stand-off Brace.
Glynneath ended the half in stronger mood, but were unable to break the all-enveloping Tenby defence.
Harrett reduced the arrears with a penalty shortly after the change around, but Bowen restored the advantage when he fired over a superb long-range penalty from just two feet inside the Glynneath half.
With their options wide out negated by the Tenby cover, Glynneath tried to run through the United defence, but the homesters slowed them down at the breakdown, denying them any workable phase ball.
The visitors were further frustrated when Harrett missed a close range penalty and Tenby did well to turn fullback Nigel Williams as he crossed the tryline to prevent him grounding the ball.
Tenby were full of creativity and were unlucky to see two try scoring chances pass them by.
One was following some excellent phase play by Allen and Evans after Oliver Brace broke from the base, but Sion Brace's chip bounced the wrong way for Lawrence on the wing, while Glynneath did well to hold up Chandler five yards out when he joined the line for a looping attack.
Harrett kept the visitors in touch with another penalty going into the closing stages, but another excellent penalty from Bowen from wide out on the left again restored the four-point advantage for the Seasiders.
Going into time added on, Bowen slammed home a drop goal from just inside the visitors' 10 metre area to bag a highly deserved victory for the industrious Seasiders.
Tenby United fielded: Jamie Chandler, Chris Williams, Dean Bowen, Dylan Lawrence, Nicky Rees, Sion Brace, Oliver Brace, Lee Tucker, Richard Rossiter, Mark Badham, Chris Brace, Paul Broaders, Mike Evans, Nicky Allen (capt.), Justin Richards.
