Tenby RNLI were kept busy this afternoon (August 15), with three shouts in the space of two hours - including an incident where the inshore lifeboat crew were tasked with rescuing kayakers in difficulty after they were blown offshore from South Beach and drifting out to Caldey Island.
The first call came shortly after 2 pm when the RNLI beach lifeguards at Pendine requested assistance with more pain relief.
Tenby’s volunteer lifeboat crew were quickly on the water and made best speed to Pendine.
Once there, they dropped the pain relief ashore and after confirming the lifeguards needed no more assistance, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station, arriving at 3.20 pm.
The second shout of the day came at 4 pm after the coastguard received a call stating that two paddleboarders were drifting offshore from Amroth.
Once again, the lifeboat was quickly on the water, but as they got underway, the coastguard confirmed that another vessel that was in the area was assisting the paddleboarders.
However, the lifeboat was immediately re-tasked to assist two inflatable kayaks that appeared to be in difficulty after being blown offshore from Tenby’s South beach and were now close to Caldey Island.
The kayaks and their occupants were taken aboard the lifeboat a dropped back to the awaiting lifeguards on Tenby’s South beach.
