Police are investigating a road traffic collision in Carmarthenshire that occurred during the early hours of Thursday (February 29), where sadly the driver of the vehicle passed away.

Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating a single vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at around 2.50 am on Thursday, where a car collided with the traffic lights on the A48 at Pensarn roundabout, Carmarthen.

The A48 from Nantycaws to Carmarthen was closed for several hours with diversions in place, as a high volume of traffic congestion was experienced around the surrounding roads. 

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while investigations were conducted.

“Following the collision, sadly the male driver of the car passed away in hospital,” said a spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police.
