Gardaí [Irish police] have confirmed that a woman has died following an incident onboard a ferry travelling from Fishguard to Rosslare, County Wexford, with a male remaining in custody in connection with the incident.
The incident is reported to have occurred on Tuesday (February 25) afternoon, on the Stena Line sailing from 2pm
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene after being alerted to what was described as ‘an unexplained death’ shortly after 5pm local time, before boarding the ship, which is currently docked at Rosslare Harbour.
The woman was later pronounced dead. Gardaí are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem.
On Tuesday evening, the outbound Stena sailing from Rosslare to Fishguard at 7pm was cancelled with passengers being accommodated by Irish ferries on the 8.45pm sailing from Rosslare to Pembroke, according to the company.
