Angle RNLI’s Lifeboat crew were called into action during the early hours of Sunday (December 29) to assist police with a search for a missing person in the Milford Haven area.

The lifeboat crew were paged at 3.23am, after police officers had located an item of clothing on the beach, and with concern that a person may have entered the water, the lifeboat was requested to assist.

Tasked to search from Milford Beach to the Rath, the lifeboat was soon on scene and a search was commenced, with the casualty spotted on the rocks to the east of Milford Beach.

The Y boat was deployed and a crew member went ashore to reassure the casualty.

Shortly after, the person was taken onboard the Y boat and handed over to police officers and members of Dale and Broad Haven Costguard Rescue Teams at the bottom of Slip Hill.

With the casualty cold and wet, Y boat returned to the lifeboat to collect blankets.

A couple of days before, there had been a Boxing Day shout for Angle RNLI, with the all-weather lifeboat requested to launch at 2.40pm to assist an injured surfer at Frainslake Beach.

The surfer was reported to have a potentially damaged achilles, and with difficult access to the beach and a requirement for pain relief, the lifeboat was tasked to assist.

Unfortunately, with the swell on the beach too great for the Y boat to go ashore, the crew were forced to stand off and await a lull in the conditions. With Coastguard Rescue Teams on scene and the casualty in significant pain, a local surfer paddled out to collect entonox from the lifeboat.

Luckily, an off duty RNLI lifeguard was one of the surfers at the beach so was able to safely administer the pain relief to the casualty.
