Crews from six different fire stations were called to the fire that broke out at a Tenby hotel on Wednesday (January 24) evening, with 16 people evacuated from the property.

As well as the crews from Tenby, firefighters from Pembroke Dock, Narberth, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and Tumble stations were called to reports of a fire at the Royal Lion Hotel on High Street, at 5.01 pm.
The 5-storey property consisting of 1 basement with 4 floors above ground, the hotel overlooks the seaside town’s North Beach and harbour.
Many people in the vicinity initially thought that firefighters were on the scene to deal with a flooding incident, as the road on High Street had already been closed due to a burst water main, with Welsh Water/Dwr Cymru workers are in attendance a little further up the street.

However, it was soon clear, seeing firefighters entering the hotel building with hoses and oxygen tanks, that there was a far more serious matter to tend to.
The fire is said to have been confined to one of the rooms at the hotel.
A total of 6 set of Breathing Apparatus were used as well as 3 Thermal Imaging Cameras and 3 Hose Reel Jets.
Natural ventilation was carried out by opening doors and windows.

“16 people all fit and well, and out before arrival of fire service,” said a spokesperson for the Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Crews left the scene at 6.36 pm.
