A large crowd turned out at the Lewis Lloyd Ground to watch the third encounter of the season between Narberth and Crymych.

The Otters had been successful in the first two matches played at Crymych in the league and WRU Cup competitions but both games had been closely fought affairs.

The supporters of both teams were not disappointed as once again they were rewarded with another epic, nail biting encounter with the result in the balance until the final minutes of the match.

Narberth got their first points on the board within five minutes of the kick off when a break by full back Ashley Sutton saw wing Rhys Harris flying down the touchline.

He stepped inside his opposite number, and when tackled, released the ball to supporting scrum half Alex Williams who dived over to score the first try which was converted by fly half Jonathan Rogers.

Crymych replied almost immediately when after a series of recycling at rucks their openside flanker dived over near the posts for a try converted by full back Adam Phillips.

Within minutes the visitors had got their noses in front when their No.8 crossed the line for another try converted by Phillips.

Narberth drew level, when after several rucks of their own, Josh Hamer slipped the ball inside and a lovely angled run by centre Hedd Nicholas saw him run in under the posts for the Otters second try.

Narberth put themselves back in front when they were awarded a penalty and kicked to the corner.

From the resulting lineout they set up a rolling maul and drove over the line for flanker Josh Hamer to touch down for the try.

A penalty by Jonathan Rogers then extended the lead to 22-14, with no further score before half time.

After the break Narberth had much more of the territory and kept Crymych pinned within their 22 metre line for long periods of the match but dogged defence by the visitors kept the Otters out.

Eventually the pressure told and after a swift handling movement between backs and forwards full back Sutton was put into space and dived over in the corner for an unconverted bonus point try to make it 27-14.

Crymych refused to give up and with ten minutes to go they got their third try once again converted by Phillips to bring the score back to 27-21.

However with five minutes to go Narberth were awarded a further penalty which Rogers sent sailing between the posts and put the game out of Crymych’s reach at 30-21.

After the match Narberth head coach Liam Gadd said that it was a tough and tense match, which is always expected from a local derby and he was just pleased that his team had stood up to the stern challenge and remained undefeated with 13 league wins out of 13.
