News from Pembroke Rugby Club...

Two weekends ago the First XV entertained Gorseinon on a warm, sunny, dry Spring day, with conditions conducive to open running rugby.

The home side started well, but conceded an early try to the visitors, after some determined phase play.

Although the Pembroke scrum operated very well throughout the first half and the home side got parity, the visitors worked the ball wide, where slick handling and excellent support play saw them establish a 0-26 lead by half time.

In the second half the visitors played some very entertaining rugby, taking the ball wide at every opportunity scoring lots more tries and running out worthy winners.

Last Saturday the club could not field a First XV to travel to Felinfoel and so conceded the fixture.

The Youth a week ago played Whitland away. The first half was quite even, with both sides creating lots of chances and the home side establishing a small lead at the break.

Pembroke lost their skipper to a red card and afterwards the home side took the initiative, scoring some very well constructed tries and running out very worthy winners.

The Youth will play Aberystwyth next at home on April 26.

May 7 sees the return of the Youth 7s tournament at the club after the Covid break. Teams will be competing for the Jimmy Hulbert Cup and Plate. The play starts at 2 to 2.30 pm.

The Junior section hosted the U8s Festival last Sunday, in rainy conditions. All teams performed very creditably and the day was a huge success.

Two of the teams will now be nominated to appear at the forthcoming County Junior Finals Day at the start of May.

The First XV are due to play Gowerton at home this Saturday, KO 2.30 pm.

The Panthers are due to play Tumble at home on Sunday, KO 2.30pm.

All at the Club applaud and congratulate the performances of Whitland and H’West Ladies teams as both won their Principality Stadium Plate and Bowl Finals a week or so ago, and to Llangwm Youth on their appearance in their Youth Bowl Cardiff Final.

The Pembs Schools U15s Dewar Shield side are due to play in a similar final on April 26 and we wish them success. A great all round showing from Pembs teams.

The Panthers are holding a Horse Race Evening at the Club on April 28, starting at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome to come along to have some fun and assist them in raising funds for their end of season tour.

The club is also hoping to host an open air music event on May 13, as part of the Pembroke Festival. Please watch out for information on social media.
