The First XV travelled to Penclawdd last Saturday hoping to get some points from a League basement battle.
The home side started very strongly, scoring a well constructed try after only a few minutes.
The hosts were very aggressive in their running and excellent support work brought them a flurry of tries thanks to some poor defensive tackling. The visitors struck back with two well taken tries of their own to earn some respect and leaving them 36-13 down at half time.
The third quarter saw the hosts make changes and the visitors build consistent pressure to dominate territory for the period and scoring a couple of tries. But more sloppy defence allowed the home side to score three quick tires to take the result beyond doubt.
Pembroke however, never gave up and they scored the final try of the match, leaving the home side worthy winners by 55-25.
The Youth played Tenby at home last Thursday evening in the first round of the Griffiths U18 Cup, in front of a huge, noisy, crowd (with both squads pictured).
In marvellous conditions both sides served up a real cracker of a match.
The lead swopped hands a couple of times in what turned out to be a high tempo, tense and exciting affair.
The hosts established a lead in the second half and held on tenaciously, keeping Tenby at bay with some determined tackling.
The visitors however, at 22-17 down proved very resilient and although pinned in their own half in the dying minutes of the game, mounted a concerted attack and managed to penetrate the home defence to score an unconverted try to make the score 22-22.
Both sides had scored four tries each, but Tenby thus won the tie on the away rule. Pembroke RFC wishes them success in the future rounds.
Last Friday night the Pembs Schools U15 Dewar Shield squad entertained Vale of Glamorgan at Crickmarren.
Pembs had won two and drawn one other of their four matches in their section of the competition prior to this game. Again the match proved a very exciting, skilful and entertaining affair for a very large crowd, which contained a large visiting contingent.
Both sides showed their full array of strategy and the lead changed hands a few times. The visitors built a lead through some adventurous play, whilst the home side also showed their capabilities to score some good tries.
With the score at 10-15, the home side looked to have thrown their chances, until a late surge from deep in their own half, saw them build through phases to provide a chance for their livewire No 8 to crash over under the posts at the clubhouse end in the dying seconds, the conversion was landed and Pembs won to go top of their Table in this competition.
The Juniors were again out in force against Crymych, with the U7, 8, 11, 12 claiming wins.
