Through the Winter season, ‘Tenby Rabbits’ (a golfing society that has been running at Tenby Golf Club since 1963) took on a season of trophies, shields and cups. Despite some frosty conditions, a couple of days of course closures, the hard fought contests came to a climax at the end of March with all the trophy winners uncertain until the very final rounds.
The large group photo depicts the winners of the Rabbit Winter League and also the Duffy Cup and Joe S Williams Shield.
From left to right the winners were: Gareth Davies (Joe S Williams Shield for best gross), Will Williams (Duffy Cup for best net), Mike Williams (Winter League Wooden Spoon), John Ball (Winter League Winner), Nick Goode (Gross Eclectic Winner), Chris Smith (Rabbit Captain), Paul Crawford (Stableford Eclectic Winner), Tom Watkins (Runner-up in Winter League and Gross Eclectic).
The Rabbit Medal was held the following week with the trophies awarded for the best net and best gross scores.
The Rabbits start their Three Counties Summer League matches away at Cwmrhydneuadd on April 23.
2023 is the 60th Anniversary of the Rabbits Society - congratulations to all - keep hopping!
Judgement day for the Chicken Trotters!
The Trotters is a social group formed way back in the 1980s.
Taking place from September to May, the group plays every Friday morning over 15 holes - and originally the prize was a frozen chicken!
Whilst suspended for the pandemic, they trotted back in force to the competition scene in January 2023 for a shortened season - and the frozen chicken is replaced with a 30p entry fee and share of the prize pot for winners!
All are welcome and there is no restriction on age or handicap, though the Trotters have their own unique handicapping system - with cuts to handicap for the next 2 appearances should they win part of the prize pot and their own ‘blue’ tee course handicap.
The 'Judgement Day finale' for the Chicken Trotters was held on April 7.
The health benefits of golf are well documented - and a great way to keep fit and active.
Pictured are some of the esteemed winners from ’Judgement Day’ - from left to right: Geoff Aston (winner of Tommy Hutton 80+ Shield), David Lamb (winner of Norman Badham Cup for 70+), David Rees (winner of the Danny Carew Putter for those 69 and under the Kindergarten Section), Steve Cole (winner of the Booker Prize for best 5 score total).
