The Sam Ackermann Mixed Trophy competition is always played nearest the longest day, in memory of Tenby Golf Club captain in 1972, Sam Ackermann.
By all accounts, he was a bit of a character in his plus twos and sports jacket. He started a roll up on a Friday evening to play mixed golf and socialise. By mixing partners it allowed people to get to know everyone and was very popular.
After all the fabulous sunny evenings we have been having it was hoped that today would be the same, and with no clubhouse while it is being rebuilt Wyndham and Ann Collins had invited all competitors to a barbeque after the game, to their home.
However, the weather was not so kind to us as the sea mist rolled in and then a few rain showers. Still the golf was sociable for all, and very competitive for some, and we all had that BBQ to look forward to.
Coming away with their entry fees in the Bag Draw were Rob Hall and Ella Harley, and Trevayne Keohane and Keith Hubbard. Only one two was recorded, on the 17th, and that was Laura McQueen and Ian Williams, so they received a sleeve of balls each.
Meanwhile in the competition there were some good scores. In third place with 37 points were a new pairing of Ian Duke and Linda Tordoff Evans.
Second place on countback went to Laura McQueen and Ian Williams with 38 points. But the winning pair, also with 38 were Di Dredge and the talented Gareth Davies. Congratulations to them both. They now get the Sam Ackermann Trophy and their names on the board for posterity.
The next mixed is on July 16 and will be bookable on Masterscoreboard from June 25. A big thank you to Wyndham and Ann for making it a memorable evening, to Ryan for doing the cards in the Pro Shop and to Laura for running the results.
