Following in the footsteps of his father Barry Wood, Simon ‘Woody’ Wood of Carew Cricket Club in Pembrokeshire has smashed home a phenomenal 57 in his first ever World Cup Game for Wales in Cape Town, South Africa.

Woody, who made his Cricket World Cup debut against the home side South Africa on March 10, displayed a brilliant partnership of 111 with Micheal Cann and hit a fantastic 57 off 81 balls. Woody also received the spirit of the way award for his passion and enthusiasm in the game.

The all rounder proved it wasn’t first timers luck by going on to score a brilliant 45 not out against Namabia, supporting Wales to their 1st win of the 2023 World Cup, followed by a second win against the UAE.

Finishing 5th in their group meant Wales faced Australia in the play-off, although they had a tough game ahead Woody again showed his composure, scoring 18 off only 11 balls, including a 6 to give Wales the win with 7 overs to spare!

Simon’s daughter Megan has been cheering him on from home and could not be prouder of her dad and the huge impact he has had on the Welsh team.

Parents Barry and Brenda, along with the rest of the family, are extremely proud of Simon’s achievements.
