The weekend of December 3/4 saw the Tri-National Short Mat Bowls Championship taking place at Heatherton. It featured teams representing England (Norfolk), Ireland (Ulster) and Wales (Pembrokeshire), with Ireland being the long term champions in this discipline.

After several hours of exciting bowls on Saturday, Wales were left in prime position to take the title, being several points clear of Ireland in second place.

However, on Sunday morning, Ulster produced some amazing bowls to close the gap and on Sunday afternoon won all the available points to take the title despite a brave fight by the Pembrokeshire team, who finished above Norfolk in second place.

Thanks must go to Heatherton for the use of their facilities and to all spectators who filled the venue to capacity on both days.
