Kath Blayney from Heatherton is nearing the end of a successful term of office as President of the Welsh Ladies Indoor Bowling Association.
Elected last May at a luncheon and AGM held at the Merlewood Hotel in Saundersfoot, Kath, who lives in Pentlepoir, became the first representative from the St. Florence club to receive this honour and has had a busy indoor season.
In October, she attended the test match series between Wales and England in Bristol which was televised on ITV and with the Welsh team, consisting of men and women, winning the competition, had the honour of leading the players and officials onto the green for the presentation ceremony.
Throughout the winter, Kath also travelled to Coatbridge, Paisley, Aberdeen and Belfast to officiate, as well as attending various events and tournaments at many Welsh indoor venues.
Most recently, she spent a week in Swansea for the World Indoor Bowling Association Senior Indoor Singles and Mixed Pairs competitions.
Although suffering a personal loss in February with her father passing away after a long illness, Kath nevertheless fulfilled all her duties diligently and thoroughly enjoyed her presidency.
She would like to thank all those who have supported her, in particular Hugh and Mair Davies and the members of Heatherton.
It has been a hectic year for the Blayney household, as prior to the recent indoor season, husband Paul was the outdoor Pembrokeshire County Bowling Association president.
Kath’s last official duty will take place on Saturday, May 13, when she will have the pleasure of presenting the winners of all the various Welsh competitions with their trophies, before passing the pesident’s mantle to Wendy Morris of the Earlswood club in Swansea.
Kath will remain on the executive of the WLIBA for another year as immediate past president and it looks as if she will be off on her travels again for the 2017/2018 season!
