East Williamston Short Mat Bowls Club have done it again!
On Saturday, May 13 Hundleton Short Mat Bowls Club hosted the first ever Coronation Cup, where clubs from the South Pembs Friendly League played in this new Triples Tournament.
Representing East Williamston were Mark Taylor, Cliff Jacobs and Phill Painting.
After successfully beating the other teams in the knock out stages, East Williamston found themselves in the Final against St Johns and, after some close games, were delighted to come away with the win and the trophy!
The runners up were Norman Hogg, John Coppin and Sue Coppin from St Johns.
East Williamston, who are the current South Pembs league winners play in two Pembrokeshire Short Mat leagues, Cup Competitions and County Tournaments.
The club welcomes anybody wanting to try a new non-strenuous sport, to have fun and meet new friends.
Club Secretary, Fran Harper-Green, said: “Two years ago I was new to the area and new to short mat bowls but joining East Williamston Short Mat Bowls Club has been a great way to meet new people, win trophies and play a sport that doesn’t make bones ache!
“Short mat bowls isn’t very well known, with indoor and outdoor bowls getting far more coverage, but with less and less players playing short mat many clubs have already folded. It is critical that the sport gets more recognition.
“There are opportunities to play in the Pembrokeshire County team, many of whom have gone on to play for Wales.
“If anybody would like to give it a go please contact us through our website or Facebook page or come along on a Tuesday or Thursday evening.
“We start at 7 pm and have equipment for you to use,” she added.
