Never in Tenby Bowling Club’s 99 years history can there have been a more dramatic end to a tournament than in last weekend’s Valero Pairs competition.
With the leaves beginning to fall from the venue’s venerable old tree, and level at 8 all in the final end, former Tenby player Phil Carpenter pulled out a shot from the coaching manuals to leave the jack and his wood in the ditch to win the game in an instance for him and his playing partner Keith Michael.
Opponents Lee Williamson and 13 year old son Dylan could only look on and applaud the winners in a final that will remain in the memory for years to come.
With the crowd still buzzing, Valero’s Hywel Gibbs was on hand to present the Pairs trophy to Keith (left) and Phil and close the competition season at Tenby.
