On announcing the Ironman ‘Athletes Choice Awards’ winners recently, highlighting the highest-scoring events in a variety of categories based on athletes’ post-event surveys from all the 2024 Ironman races from around the world - for the second year running and continuing to prove its ‘bucket list’ status within the global series, Ironman Wales held in and around Tenby, was voted the second ‘Most Recommended Race’ in the world, beating far flung destinations such as Western Australia and New Zealand.

The accolade from the athletes themselves, shows that you can't beat the Welsh countryside and the epic spectator support from the seaside town of Tenby, and its surrounding areas.

The race also came second in the ‘Overall Best Bike Course’ globally.

Additionally, Ironman 70.3 Swansea came third in EMEA for the ‘Overall Best Run’ course,

Ironman Wales and Ironman 70.3 Swansea race director, Rebecca Sutherland, said: “It’s fantastic that the brilliant Welsh races stand up so well in the eyes of athletes across the world when comparing them to other locations.

“It’s a testament to the beautiful country and the incredible spectator support we see year after year. We know that you should experience racing in Wales at least once in your life, but it’s fantastic to hear that the athletes agree!”

Surveys were sent post event to all athletes who completed the race, with questions asked on a five-point satisfaction scale.

The awards serve to recognize exceptional event aspects within an already curated series of events, helping triathletes to select their future race destinations using peer-based recommendations or fan-favorites.

Approximately 48,000 total survey respondents gave feedback to decide the winners for each category of Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events, marking a major accomplishment for the winning events and their host communities.

Ironman Wales returns to Pembrokeshire this year on Sunday, September 21.
