Since winning a gold at last year’s 'Wales in Bloom' and subsequently accepting their invitation to enter this year's 60th anniversary ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition - the Saundersfoot in Bloom team have been dreaming, planning and working hard behind the scenes to get the village looking bright and colourful for all.
Saundersfoot in Bloom are blessed with additional volunteers who answer a call to arms and turn up in all weathers to clean, paint, bake, dig, plant-out etc and its entry into the ‘In Bloom’ competitions is definitely a village affair.
“We are truly grateful for the support we've had from Saundersfoot Community Council, Saundersfoot Harbour, Pembrokeshire County Council, the business community, villagers and visitors,” said the In Bloom team.
“The Annual Garden Competition is running again this year and we are spreading the word to reassure people that you don’t need a Show Garden to enter - just show your garden to judges!
“We are incredibly appreciative to those that enter and with all this year's rain, rain, rain we know that growing a garden is no mean feat! The In Bloom judges can't wait and are excited to witness what is blooming here this year.”
Saundersfoot in Bloom isn't just about flowers - volunteers are working all year-round within the community with plants, flowers, litter-picks, fundraising events that encourage connection between people, and with the environment.
There are categories for private houses, public houses and restaurants and trade entries with classes including Best Garden, Wildlife Champion and Best Hanging Basket. There has been a great response to a new category introduced this year, to nominate a (Saundersfoot) garden.
Entry forms are available from ECoast, Saundersfoot Library, and The Salty Spaniel or via Facebook and Instagram.
Judging will take place on July 17, and classes that can be judged from the kerbside can be done without the entrant being present if necessary.
Later in the year, a presentation evening will be held at St Bride's Hotel where winners will be awarded trophies. There will be certificates for all that entered and the volunteers who have helped over the year will be celebrated.
If you know of a garden that makes you happy and you think judges should see it, then fill out an entry form with details or message via the Facebook page where you can find out more information on what's going on and ways to join in or support the organisation financially if you wish.
