YOUNG saxophonist Talfan Jenkins has been awarded a special award for his results in his music performance exams.

Talfan, aged 15, a student at Ysgol y Preseli who lives in Wiseman’s Bridge, took his grade 8 jazz saxophone exam with the Trinity College of London board and gained one of the highest results in the UK with 99 per cent.

He received a certificate for the exhibition award and a cheque to mark his achievement.

Talfan has enjoyed a number of successes in competition and passed his classical grade 8 exam on the instrument with the ABRSM at the age of 12 when he was studying with Pembrokeshire peripatetic teacher Gareth Sanders Swales.

He has since joined the junior conservatoire of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff which he attends every Saturday.
