After seeing pictures of staff recently in the Observer, former Greenhill teacher Roy Griffiths was reminded of this 36-year-old photograph showing the First Year Tutors in 1982.
Mr. Griffiths was in the music department and will be remembered especially by members of the Orchestra. Readers who are former Greenhill pupils will see
plenty of familiar faces. The men at the back are Rhob Pattinson, the late Gareth Thomas, John Rees, Frank Coombes, Roy Griffiths and William (Bill) Cleevely, while the ladies in the front include Diane John, Christine Hughes, Joyce Lewis and the late Sheila John.
Ysgol Greenhill School is over 120 years old. It was officially opened on September 23, 1896 and received its first pupils the following day. In 1896 there were 74 pupils and three full-time teachers. A century later there were over 100 teachers at the school, with 1317 pupils to educate! Greenhill was a Grammar School for many years until the 1961 when the school moved to Heywood Lane and became Comprehensive.
