WHITLAND 111 (14 pts). FISHGUARD 55 (0)

Whitland Bowls Club gained maximum points in an entertaining league match played at Whitland last Saturday. Two rinks had comfortable wins, while the other two were hard fought, close affairs.

Pride of place must go to Glyndwr Thomas and his trio of Mathew Court, Aeron Thomas and Dan Jenner, who all had excellent games and ran out 45 shots to six winners against T. Evans's quartet. This rink are having a fine season and will soon be christened the 'kitty boys' - beware of the taxman lads!

The ebullient Steve Reese led his rink of Nigel Davies, Peter Wills and Colin Wynn  to an excellent 25 shots to 16 success over Tom Jones's rink. Nigel and Peter up front gave the back end of Colin and Steve some first class heads, which they clearly developed with some fine bowling indeed! The awesome Colin Wynn on a number of occasions demonstrated his ballet-like celebration of his shot arriving within striking distance of the jack.

The determined Alan Whitehouse, in his usual enthusiastic manner, led his rink of young Liam Price (one to watch for the future), David Jenner and captain Huw 'Beano' Nicholas, to a narrow victory of 20 shots to 16 over R. Thomas's rink. Liam and Dave up front gave a solid performance - Dave was really cooking on a few occasions - while Beano, who is knocking on the door for county selection, and Alan, despite being one down on the 18th end, closed the game with some very fine bowls.

Mathew James, in his usual quiet and determined manner, led his rink of Emyr 'the carpet' James, Selwyn Price and John Rees to a close victory over D. Hughes and his rink. Mathew's rink developed a fine understanding, with all players making a huge contribution in the face of some determined bowling by the opposition.

This win has moved Whitland into the higher echelons of the leauge table.
