The leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats will be visiting Kilgetty today (Saturday) to check out an exciting community project.

Jane Dodds will meet with the Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate for Mid and South Pembrokeshire Cllr Alistair Cameron (who is county councillor for the Kilgetty and Begelly ward), as well as members of the Rural Futures’ My Square Mile Steering Group who are managing the project and local Liberal Democrat activists.

The project, which has received National Lottery funding, will involve the creation of two new buildings, a ‘Men’s Shed’ and a craft cabin for the local Kilgetty craft group.

Men’s Sheds originated in Australia in the early 2000’s and were developed to tackle growing concerns of social isolation amongst the male population.

Commenting, Jane said: “Welsh Liberal Democrats have always believed in strong local communities with vibrant and growing activities, and I am looking forward to seeing how these projects are progressing.

“I will be interested in seeing how both buildings will enable local residents to socialise and pursue their hobbies and interests.

Cllr Cameron commented: “Kilgetty, Begelly and the surrounding areas have a strong community spirit with many local activities. These two buildings will greatly add to what is available locally.”
