Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Samuel Kurtz is urging residents to show their support for their beloved local watering holes by nominating their favourite pubs in the inaugural ‘Best Local Pub’ competition.

As the heart of communities, local pubs are more than just places to grab a pint, they are hubs of social connection, culture, and community spirit.

The competition, which celebrates the invaluable role that local pubs play in bringing people together, providing jobs and boosting the local economy, offers a chance for these iconic establishments to gain well-deserved recognition.

“Local pubs are a vital part of our community fabric. Whether it’s for a casual drink after work, a weekend catch-up with friends, or hosting community events, our pubs provide spaces for social connection and local culture to thrive,” said Samuel Kurtz.

“This competition is a fantastic opportunity to show our appreciation and give these pubs the recognition they truly deserve.”

“Across Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire there are 150 pubs and 2 breweries which contribute £39 million to the local economy, and they support 1,179 jobs which is just incredible.”

Residents can nominate their favourite pub via the website www.samuelkurtz.wales and his social media posts.

Nominations will be open throughout the month of February with the winners receiving a prize, which includes a free barrel of a standard beer of their choice, thanks to Templeton Beer, Wine and Spirt Co.

The competition aims to highlight the diverse range of pubs that make each community unique.

Mr Kurtz who is calling on everyone to take part and ensure that the standout local establishments in the area are celebrated, added: “Let’s work together to shine a spotlight on the pubs that have made a difference in our lives and continue to play a pivotal role in our communities.”
