Pembrokeshire College learner Melanie Durney was named the VQ (Vocational Qualifications) Higher Learner of the Year at a ceremony in Cardiff last week for her achievements in training at work.
Working for the Port of Milford Haven, Melanie has gone from an administrator to managing a team that will be instrumental in the success of a multi-million pound regeneration project in Milford Haven.
Melanie completed a Level 4 NVQ in Business and Admin with Pembrokeshire College before being promoted to docks co-ordinator. She then went on to achieve a Level 5 NVQ in Management with the college and is now marina supervisor.
Melanie was also nominated for ‘Manager of the Year’ by her colleagues in 2015.
The VQ Learner of the Year recognises learners who have completed a vocational qualification within the last seven years and demonstrate progressions and excellence in vocational learning.
Melanie said: “Pembrokeshire College has given me the skills to develop my future, my team and the operations here at the Port through its work-based training programmes.”
Pembrokeshire College assessor, Glenys Francis, added: “Melanie has achieved her goals through determination; she is motivated by quality and has a natural aptitude for business.”
