Pembrokeshire Council chiefs were welcomed to the seaside to see all the hard work volunteers have been putting in at Saundersfoot to help spruce-up the village over and leading into the summer season.

Saundersfoot Community Council Chair Nicola Cleevely was absolutely delighted to join, CEO of Pembrokeshire County Council Will Bramble CBE, PCC Leader Cllr Jon Harvey and Deputy Leader Cllr Paul Miller on the visit which was arranged by county councillor for the south ward Cllr Chris Williams - as it was the perfect opportunity for them to witness first hand the fantastic work done by volunteers.

Volunteers have contributed over 600 hours of planting, weeding, painting, cleaning and litter picking to make Saundersfoot shine.

As well as hosting its own annual In Bloom event, the village once again entered Wales In Bloom and this year was also selected as a finalist for Britain in Bloom contest organised by the Royal Horticultural Society in its 60th anniversary year.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved who have given up many hours to paint the street furniture around the village,” said Cllr Williams.

“An incredible 98 bollards, over 25 lamp post have all been rubbed down and painted to brighten up parts of the village.

“I would also like to thank all the artists who have come forward with offers to paint and bring life into the BT boxes which were looking rather grubby around the village.

“The artwork and time gone into this has been excellent and has certainly gone down well with the local residents.

“Thanks to Suzannah of the Hean Inn and Lloyd of Stay Pembrokeshire who kindly donated the paint for the local artists.”

Cllr Williams said that an ‘incredible’ amount of hours had been donated by hard working volunteers in the community over the last few months.

After welcoming Britain In Bloom judges for the recent walkabout, Saundersfoot In Bloom’s Julie Davies said: “A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in our 2023/24 programme, just some patience needed now as results aren't announced until mid October!”

The Chair of Saundersfoot Community Council Cllr Cleevely said she was absolutely delighted to meet the RHS Britain in Bloom judges.

“The village looked stunning and the weather couldn't have been better. An absolute credit to all of the Saundersfoot in Bloom committee and everyone who contributed in any way. What a fantastic achievement,” she remarked.
