Pembroke Town Council are on the look out for volunteers to help maintain the Mill Pond area.
As part of a project involving the Town Council, Pembrokeshire County Council, the Pembroke Environment and Mill Pond Group, and Natural Resources Wales, algae has been removed from the mill pond, and within the work a maintenance plan is to be set out, to try and keep the area as attractive as possible, being one of Pembroke’s finest assets.
“The algae will be left to dry out giving the wildlife and invertebrates the opportunity to return to the water, and after this period it will be removed as part of the second stage,” said a spokesperson for Pembroke Town Council.
“The second stage of the project will include the maintenance and cutting back of the reeds which will be due to start in October.
“We know the algae will return next year, but are hoping by having a regular maintenance plan in place, will be able to keep it under control, along with the reeds.
“We would be interested to know any thoughts anyone may have to enhance one of our town’s key assets, which could be added to the maintenance plan, but please acknowledge we have a limited budget for these works, but welcome any comments.
“We are also looking for volunteers to help tidy up these areas, to include - weeding, painting and general litter picking.”
Should you wish to be part of this group to help keep Pembroke tidy, please ring 01646 683092 with your details, and as soon as restrictions allow, the town council will be able to arrange a date to meet up.
