The service acts as a public transport ‘safety net,’ offering vital links to bus and train services or providing door-to-door transport for individuals with no other reasonable options.
Country Cars plays a vital role in ensuring that everyone in Carmarthenshire has access to essential services. To ensure the continued success of Country Cars, the scheme is looking for more volunteers to join the team.
Volunteer drivers are needed to provide transport for residents, but those who don’t drive can still play a vital role in helping to organise journeys.
A spokesperson for the Royal Voluntary Service said: “The usual comment I receive from passengers is what a wonderful service it is and how they really don’t know what they would do without it.
“I volunteer for Country Cars because I know how difficult it is for our passengers to get from A to B via public transport or taxis. Some are very lonely and we enjoy a lovely chat during our journey. I would encourage anyone who has a few hours to spare to sign up; it’s such a worthwhile and rewarding thing to do.”
Cllr. Edward Thomas, Carmarthenshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste, and Infrastructure Services said: “Country Cars is a lifeline for many residents in Carmarthenshire, ensuring they can access essential services when no other transport options are available. We are incredibly grateful to our current volunteers for their dedication, but we urgently need more people to step forward to keep this vital service running.
Volunteering is a rewarding way to make a difference in the lives of people in the local community, and anyone interested is encouraged to contact the Royal Voluntary Service at call 01267 234567 to learn more.
