This week has seen a station first for St David’s RNLI - with the inshore lifeboat helmed by an all female crew for the first time ever.

Just before last weekend, the all female crew of Ellen (Helm), Ella, Jem, and Sophie took the inshore lifeboat on an exercise, then on Tuesday (September 17) the D-Class lifeboat was launched on service just before a routine exercise, to two people believed to be struggling on their dingy in the Pointz Castle area (east of Solva).

The ILB launched swiftly and met with the two people, and both were fine and well.

Some safety advice was issued and the ILB returned to station with their contact details and intentions passed to the Coastguard.

This was Ellen’s first shout as a D-Class helm.
