A brave Jack Russell dog who found her way to the seaside resort of Tenby alongside a former Welsh soldier on his coastal charity challenge is looking for a loving new home.

Jez (now renamed Jess) the Jack Russell was given to 37-year-old Christian Lewis, who served with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, a few weeks ago, who was reassured by a farm vet in Swansea and the former owner that she would be okay to join the former soldier on his 14,000 km epic journey to walk the entire UK coastline to raise money for the SSAFA Armed Forces charity who supported him when he left the forces.

Chris started the journey from the Gower with the best wishes for Jez and she absolutely relished the first part of the journey, setting the pace for the first few days of his mission around the UK.

However, the ex-paratrooper was heartbroken on the weekend when he reached Tenby and realised that the best thing to do for the welfare of Jez was to re-home her and continue alone, as she could no longer soldier on due to a poorly leg.

Tenby resident and town councillor Maureen Ward, who previously ran the Tenby Animal Rescue Centre, was contacted, and kindly agreed that Jez (who she now calls Jess) could reside with her, until a new home was found.

“Jess has been taken to Tenby Vets and checked out and spayed and is ready for a new home,” she said.

“Tenby Vets set-up a donation box to pay for her treatments and people have very kindly contributed towards the bill. Any monies left over following her treatment will now be donated to Greenacres Animal Rescue Centre.

“Jess is aged about four to five, a little nervous, but very good natured.

“She gets on with both cats and dogs, and is looking for a loving home as she wants someone to look after her permanently. The sooner the better really, before she becomes too attached to me!” added Maureen, who can be contacted at her home in Augustus Place on (01834) 843712.
