Pembroke Dock Library are looking for the Town Council to take over the building, with expected costs in excess of £34,500 per annum.
This breaks down as £5,000 maintenance; £11.468 utilities and £18,056 rates.
At the September meeting, members commented that they had concerns with taking over the library. The clerk informed members that the main aim for the library would be for a volunteer group to be formed who would then work 50 per cent of the hours in the library. Members agreed this was not an agreement they would want to be part of, they stated that there are very few volunteers in the town and to gain and manage a group could be difficult.
It was agreed that in order to take over the library maintenance the Council could see spread themselves thinly, putting too much pressure on the council for future budgets. It was recommended that Council do not progress with this proposal.
Cllr Wilcox commented that it would be a massive undertaking, and it is a mandatory service so Pembrokeshire County Council will have to provide a library service somewhere in the town.
All members agreed not to take over the maintenance of Pembroke Dock Library.
