The popular Pembroke Coast Express will be taking a trip to Tenby this weekend when the steam hauled ‘Tornado’ will head to Pembrokeshire for a Sunday excursion.

The green-liveried ‘Tornado’ which was built at a cost of £3m by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust a decade ago, is the UK’s only new-build mainline steam locomotive.

It will head for West Wales beyond Carmarthen, after setting out from Bristol at 8 am, with the route taking passengers through the Severn Tunnel into Wales, then west via Bridgend.

After Port Talbot the journey will take the Swansea District Line north of the city and beside the Bristol Channel beyond Llanelli.

After a break at Carmarthen whilst the locomotive is serviced, the ‘Tornado’ train will be diesel hauled to Whitland and thence down the branch line to Tenby, arriving at arriving at approximately 1.35 pm, where a two hour break is scheduled for the afternoon, before heading back for the outward journey.

Rail enthusiasts and other spectators are reminded that they should not trespass on to the tracks or any other part of the railway that is not available to passengers.
