The first public concert at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby since lockdown promises to be an event not to miss, as two musical legends return to Pembrokeshire to share some of their favourite songs from the stage.

Aaron Pryce-Lewis and Iestyn Griffiths were both born in Haverfordwest, and were in the same year in school at Sir Thomas Picton School, before pursuing successful careers in stage music. Many hours of their teenage years were spent in Aaron’s basement with him giving Iestyn sheet music to play for him to sing to, both boys dreaming of one day working on the West End. Now they are excited about coming home to Pembrokeshire.

“We both work away, and have been wanting to come back home and do a concert for a very long time and perform to a home crowd,” said Iestyn, Director of The West End of Wales (The WeoW).

“We have lots of family and friends still in Pembrokeshire who aren’t able to come and see us in London or further afield.”

Iestyn had a ‘mock-performance’ for his Masters recital at St. Mary’s in 2018, and is really excited to be back playing the lovely baby grand that is at the church, he says. Next Saturday’s concert at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby will be “a relaxed lunchtime concert, filled with some of our favourite musical theatre songs, performed in a beautiful setting.”

Aaron Pryce-Lewis, who appeared on television back in 2014 for the Bryn Terfel Scholarship, graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2018. His theatre credits include: Bishop of Digne/Combeferre/Cover Javert in Les Misérables UK & Ireland Tour, Cover Bishop in Les Misérables The Staged Concert, Cover Javert in Les Misérables (Sondheim Theatre). While training he played Maesetto in Don Giovanni, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Pausanias in Une Éducation Manquée, and Argante in Rinaldo.

Aaron’s concert credits include: Lead soloist in Festival of Massed Male Voice Choirs (Royal Albert Hall), lead soloist for BBC NOW Christmas Celebration, Jason Robert Brown Gala Performance (Apollo Theatre), featured soloist with RCM Film Orchestra, featured soloist with RCM Big Band, Gibraltar Classical Music Festival, Switzerland Annual Music Festival. And he is a featured member of the Welsh of the West End.

Iestyn Griffiths is a musical director, Keyboardist and Producer. He is currently the Assistant Musical Director on the Bat Out of Hell International Tour. He is also the Musical Director for the U.K. concept album for the new musical, For Tonight, produced by Broadway producer Blair Russell.

Since graduating from Cardiff University with a MA Distinction in Piano Performance in 2019, Iestyn has worked with numerous Musical Theatre companies across South Wales and further afield, including three seasons as the Musical Director of Tranquillity Camp in New York. Iestyn is a BT Unbreakable award winner, and has also won a Classical Music Digital Award in 2020 and the Worshipful Livery Company Young Musician Award in 2019.

Alongside Co-Founder, Laura Llewellyn-Jones, Iestyn founded The WeoW - a collective of musical alumni from the West of Wales - in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Following two successful remote performances, The WeoW was registered as a CIC with the motto of “supporting and inspiring Welsh Musicians”. Since then, The WeoW have pioneered remote music making, amassing a large following on social media through online performances and successfully delivering education products for young musicians, raising over £25,000 for out-of-work Welsh musicians and creatives.

As a freelance Producer, Iestyn has produced videos and tracks for the likes of the BBC, S4C, the WRU, and Steffan and The Welsh of The West End. In March 2021, Iestyn produced #GWLAD! - an online concert hosted by The West End of Wales for St. David’s Day, which featured performances from acts such as John Owen-Jones, Lucie Jones and Rhod Gilbert, as well as an address from HRH The Prince of Wales.

Aaron and Iestyn will be performing at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby on Saturday, March 26, 2 pm. Tickets are £12 / £10 (concessions) and available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/booking/t-nlnqgk
