Set in the heart of the picturesque and historic Carmarthenshire and yet minutes away from the M4 corridor, lies the impressive National Botanic Garden of Wales.It’s here in the Gardens that you find the impressive Antiques Fair and Vintage Market on the 5th and 6th October..

It’s a hidden gem , as are the array of antiques that are on display at the Antiques Fair and Vintage market , Visitors are impressed with the variety of antiques on offer at this unique and amazing setting. It’s appeal is in the fact that visitors can wander around the gardens at leisure.

It is in the impressive Sir Norman Foster designed Glasshouse, that the fair show cases the Antiques Fair as well as in Principality House ,which is situated adjacent to the Glasshouse, Theatre Botanica , the Gallery Room plus in the large Wedding Marquee. The fair has also expanded into the Millennium Courtyard filling it with a Vintage Antiques Market. The Vintage market, houses smaller marquees showing off vintage toys,clothing and retro furniture plus numerous up cycled furniture and quirky items. This is a new and exciting addition to the established in side section of the fair.

There will of course be an abundance of Welsh pottery ranging from Swansea, Glamorgan, Llanelli and the increasingly popular Ewenny. An exceptional display of 17th,18th country oak furniture will take centre stage at the fair in the Wedding Marquee ,On offer will be a late 17th century cwpwrdd deuddarn [ a Charles 11 cabinet on stand] a mid-17th back-stool, a Carmarthenshire coffer, an early 19th century primitive stick chair and an 18th century oak corner cupboard from Pembrokeshire.

Welsh textiles will also be a main feature at the fair. There will be a large range of welsh tapestry blankets on display with their extensive patterns.

You will discover displays of oriental China and porcelain , collections of vintage clothes, rare paperweights and costume jewellery, an appealing display of nostalgic interior designs and an impressive array of books and Welsh paintings. There will also be fishing reels, militaria, historic maps and beautiful rare paperweights.The range is extensive.

Rare fishing reels, copper measures and garden tools will be featured at the fair. Fishing related objects such as reels, flies , creels and books on the subject, are highly prized. Local man Mr Dale from Llanddarog in Carmarthenshire, has been a fisherman and collector all his life and has a wealth of knowledge on the subject .He will be displaying a selection of his rare reels ,rods and books on fishing. His very large collection of quality fishing tackle attained over many years must now be sold due to retirement. The high quality items include rods,reels and other items by Hardy, Farlows,Sharpes of Aberdeen ,Orvis and other makers . A rare 9lb brown trout in glass case from Scotland and other items will be on sale . A chance not to be missed! You will find his collection in Principality House. There will also be more fishing tackle and reels in the Glasshouse where Chris and Lesley John will been showing off their collection.

Amongst the quality stands, will be a selection of militaria stands, displaying some very unusual items from the past including rare medals, military swords and vintage fire arms.If you want to invest in that special piece of glass or a good item of jewellery or silver, then you will find them at this fair. The range is extensive. An exceptional display of impressive Samplers will also take centre stage at the fair ,together with other collections of Wemys and Moorcroft.

In all, the fair is very well rounded, with a balance of furniture ranging from an impressive collection of early oak furniture and period mahogany pieces, to an array of country pine. There will also be a display of period clocks, together with the more traditional long case clocks,silver and bronzes.

You will find ample free parking inside the grounds. Dog owners can now wander around the Gardens with their dog at leisureThe fair opens its doors at 10.00 am and closes at 4.30 p.m.; admission is just £5 to include both the gardens and the fair.
