A Pembrokeshire woman has raised a magnificent £14,000 for two worthy causes, by taking on the gruelling London Marathon for the first time earlier this year.

When Terrie Savage from Pembrokeshire decided that she would enter the London Marathon for the first time she had no idea of the support she would have from the local community.

Her plan was to donate to two charities which were important to her but she never expected that she would raise £14,000 in total.

One of which was the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, where her sister Georgia is a sister at the facility,” said Terrie.

“My family has needed the support of the Wales Air Ambulance Service and the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Withybush Hospital as my dad is currently receiving treatment and support from the nursing team.

“It was doubly important for me to be able to support this charity as my sister works on the Unit alongside a wonderful team of clinicians,” she added.

Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Charity Trustee Bernie George said: “It was a pleasure to meet Terrie and to arrange for her to make her donation in person to the nurses who were simply amazed when they saw the £7,000 cheque.

“Our charity is local and focused entirely on the needs of the patients who attend the Chemotherapy Day Unit and the clinicians who work there. We will aim to work closely with the team to spend this wonderful donation wisely.”

The aim of the charity is to invest in facilities and equipment needed by the team of clinicians and nurses at Withybush Hospital, who provide invaluable support and health care to cancer patients here in Pembrokeshire.
