This weekend, Tenby’s Adam Hughes will be taking on a gruelling marathon in the USA, as part of a series of challenges to raise money for the Kidney Wales Foundation - to mark the 10th year anniversary of his life saving kidney transplant.

October 2024 saw Adam commemorating 10 years since he received the ‘gift of life’ of a kidney transplant, and during this time he has always retained his passion for sport and has kept active in football and running, having previously been the manager of the Carew team that secured promotion back to Division One of the Pembrokeshire League during his time on dialysis pre-transplant.

“This Sunday I’m taking on the Houston Marathon as part of my fundraising challenge for Kidney Wales which started last July to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of my kidney transplant,” said Adam.

“It is the first of three marathons I’ll be doing before the end of April, alongside Newport and London.”

Adam’s fundraising challenge started last July when he completed the Wales Three Peaks.

“Without boring with details, it’s been a far from vintage year health-wise and the training has been hard mentally and physically as I’ve overcome those hurdles, but I will still be taking on the marathons to raise money for Kidney Wales and the Wales Transplant Team even if I have to crawl,” he continued.

“Without the transplant I simply wouldn't be here. It has enabled me to move and start my career, travel to multiple countries around the world, play sport again, and most importantly get married to Sabrina and make loads of amazing memories with family and friends.

“Thank you again to everyone who has donated so far.”
