Once again, nearly 250 players travelled from far and wide to take part in the 10th Tenby Beach Volleyball Open competition. Conditions were breezy, but mostly sunny, which pleased the teams who came from all over South Wales, Bristol, Gloucester, London, Leicester, Southampton and Cumbria; while one keen lady travelled all the way from New York, just to play at Tenby!
Serena De Sarra, who played with the Bristol Ladies' team, met her fiance, who was in another team, at last year's Tenby tournament.
They have since moved to New York and will soon be married in Milan, her home city.
However, she so enjoyed last year's event and the Pembrokeshire coastline that she wanted to visit Tenby again. It seemed just reward for her commitment that her team did well enough to win the Plate Pairs and the Fours competition.
As well as trophies and sports goods prizes, the organisers presented her with a framed print of Tenby as the most travelled competitor.
The winners were:
Ladies: Pairs winners - Southampton; runners-up - Barry. Plate pairs winners - Bristol; runners-up - Cardiff. Fours winners - Bristol; runners-up - Southampton. Fours Plate winners - Barry; runners-up - Cardiff.
Mixed: Fours winners - Caldicot; runners-up - Ealing. Fours Plate winners - Newport.
Men's Division One: Pairs winners - Bridgend; runners-up - Bristol. Plate Pairs winners - Totton Hants; runners-up - Cranfield University. Fours winners - Luton; runners-up - Gloucs. Fours Plate winners - Totton Hants; runners-up - Cranfield University.
A big thank you must go to all those who helped with the tournament, especially setting up the 20 courts on a wet and windy Friday, and for the support of harbourmaster, Carl Evans, and his able assistant Matt, who still turned out despite breaking his hand on Thursday night (incidentally just eight days before his wedding - the photos should be good!).
