Tenby town crier Jim Cornwell celebrated his birthday on Saturday (January 4) by securing first place in his category of men over 70 years of age at a 10k race held in London.

The race held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford - East London was significant as Jim was born there 74 years ago on that very day.

“My birthday coincided with the race and so I felt it was too good an opportunity to miss,” said Jim.

So on a bright sunny but cold morning 253 runners raced around the Olympic Park and covered the 6 mile course in respectable times.

“Although my time was within what I expected it was good enough to secure first place and kick start my birthday celebrations!” he added.
