The annual general meeting and 10th anniversary celebrations of the Tenby Talking Newspaper took place on Monday at the Methodist Chapel, Saundersfoot.
Chairperson, Eva Rich, welcomed everyone, with a special welcome to Tracy Martin Smith, Pembrokeshire's rehabilitation officer for the visually impaired, and in her report paid tribute to all concerned with producing the Tenby Talking Newspaper each week, most people having been involved for the full 10 years.
Special thanks on behalf of all the visually impaired recipients went to the five team leaders, all the readers and copiers, the officials, but most of all to the lady who takes charge of co-ordinating the tapes and wallets each week, Jean Roberts.
The Tenby Talking Newspaper was much enjoyed by approximately 50 visually impaired people, most being local residents, but two or three going further afield, one to Southern Ireland.
Although still using cassettes at present, new equipment has recently been purchased, and it is envisaged that before too long the Tenby Talking Newspaper will be sent out on a CD.
The treasurer presented the accounts, advising that the new digital equipment was very costly, but financial support was available from both Tenby and Saundersfoot Rotary Clubs, together with a donation from the Boxing Day Swim in 2007 and the Tenby senior golfers.
The election of officers resulted in everyone staying in post.
John Webb and Margaret Walker, both recipients of the Tenby Talking Newspaper, added their thanks to everyone, saying how much they enjoyed listening to the local news each week.
Following the formalities of the AGM, several other readers joined the meeting, when a beautiful anniversary cake, kindly made and donated by Donald and Margaret Johns, was cut, and a basket of flowers presented to Jean Roberts.
The celebrations concluded with everyone enjoying a chat over coffee and cake, and thanks also being expressed to the Saundersfoot Rotary Club members who kindly delivered wallets over bank holidays, and the local postmen for their help each week.
Gwyneth Jenkins and the chapel members were also thanked for their help in providing heating during the winter months.
Everyone looked forward to many more years of producing the Tenby Talking Newspaper each week, and if anyone has difficulty in reading the Tenby Observer, please contact Eva Rich on 01834 812868 or any other official.
