Ysgol Greenhill’s Senedd Link representatives - Emma and Sophie have met with Tenby Town Council to discuss key issues affecting the local community and school.
During the meeting in March held in the Mayor’s Parlour, both students spoke confidently and passionately on behalf of Tenby’s secondary school, showcasing the importance of youth engagement in local governance.
The Council, along with the Mayor, warmly welcomed the opportunity to hear from the younger generation and expressed their gratitude for the insight provided by the students.
The discussions allowed Emma and Sophie to bring forward the thoughts and concerns of their peers at Ysgol Greenhill, demonstrating the vital role young people can play in shaping their community.
Mayor Cllr Dai Morgan and Cllr Tom Sloan shared their appreciation, stating, “It’s always a fantastic opportunity to engage with the youth of the Town, but the enthusiasm and detail of the meeting was extremely exciting.”
Cllr Morgan continued: “I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Sophie and Emma for attending our full council meeting last night, they were outstanding! They had the attention of all councillors, engaged with enthusiasm, and provided knowledgeable responses — not easy in a strange environment. They should be proud of themselves, and the school should be as well.”
A spokesperson for Greenhill School said: “We’re incredibly proud of Emma and Sophie for their articulate and thoughtful contributions,” said a spokesperson for the school.
“They truly represented the voice of their classmates and the broader youth of Tenby. We’d also like to extend our thanks to the Mayor and the Town Council for allowing young people to have a voice in these important discussions.”
The meeting served as a reminder of the value of involving young people in conversations about their community’s future, paving the way for more youth engagement in the civic process.
