Junior Sailing
With the new season coming up fast, we look forward to welcoming youngsters joining in our Wednesday evening sailing nights. Although we hope most of our present young members will continue to attend, we can cater for a limited number of new comers each month but first come first served. Minimum age eight years, but older children welcome.
An enrolment session will be held on Wednesday, March 22, starting 6 pm, and a second chance to enroll on Wednesday, March 29.
Plans for the season will be discussed. Parent/guardians required to countersign entry forms. If there is a problem turning up on those nights or for any further information, then ’phone Blake on 07717842713 for information or email [email protected]
Actual sailing sessions will start on Wednesday, April 5. Pleases turn up by 5pm planning to get on the water by 5.45 pm. All sessions are weather permitting, but there will always be sessions onshore in their place. Off the water around 7.15 pm. Youngsters should finish putting boats away, changing etc by 7.45. BBQ food available after sailing so parents invited to come along and join in. We aim to make it a good family occasion.
There will be beginners, intermediates and racing groups. It will be possible to work towards gaining Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates of the RYA junior scheme. There will also be an opportunity to work towards Power Boat 1 and 2 certificates.
Juniors will need to be members of the club (£15 or £10 if part of a family). A payment of £45 will cover the whole six-month season until the end of September. This will include an initial junior logbook. For those who want a first try, it will be £10 for a month.
You do not need to own a boat. The club has 29 dinghies for members’ use, including Optimists, Teras, Toppers, Lasers etc.
One change this year is to include more racing sessions. Those with stage three and above will be encouraged to join the racing group when weather conditions are suitable. A series of races will be held up to the end of June with a couple of trophies for the winners.
