Racing on Wednesday took place in a force 3/4 southerly breeze. Two Phantoms, four Ospreys, two 29ers and a Topper took to the water, but the 29ers chose not to race. The Phantoms of Nick Berridge and Paul Radford relished the conditions planing fast on the tight and broad reaches, while the breeze was a little light to really get the Ospreys moving, and the reach too tight for spinnakers. A hotly contested start saw most competitors away together, Mike Stace and Deanna Morton establishing a slender lead inches ahead of Ted Lewis and Emily Kirby and Bill Dowell and Tommy D'Ortez all in Ospreys. These positions remained for three of the five laps, but Ted and Emily fell back and were passed by Bill and Tom. Behind them, but well ahead on handicap was Nick, Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson in their Osprey and Paul in his Phantom, followed by young Jonathan Morris in his Topper. After five hectic laps, including some fast surfing down the waves, the boats crossed the finishing line much to the pleasure of Emily who found the spinnaker work tough going on her first outing in an Osprey. Positions were: 1. Nick Berridge (Phantom); 2. Mike/ Deanna (Osprey); 3. Paul (Phantom); 4. Bill and Tommy (Osprey); 5. Ted and Emily (Osprey); 6. Paul and Anthea (Osprey); 7. Jonathan (Topper). Passage race

Last Saturday saw the annual Hobbs Point to Tenby Passage Race. As predicted, a very large number of yachts descended on Tenby. The 36 yachts added another dimension to the already picturesque harbour. The race started at 11am from Hobbs Points. With superb conditions the fleet soon spread out. Once out of the Haven, it was spinnakers up for the rest of the race. The first boats started to arrive in Tenby at 3.30 pm with the final boat finishing at 8.30 pm. It wasn't long before the clubhouse was full of sailors eager to exchange stories of the passage race. All were treated to the universally-acclaimed Terry Evans BBQ washed down by a deserving 'lemonade'. Unfortunately, I do no have the results to hand, but I believe Mailstrome, of PHYC, was the overall winner. All the competitors agreed that the day's sailing had been superb and Tenby's hospitality unsurpassed. Many thanks to Terry Evans, Karin Morris, Karen Morgan, Dina Brace, Colin Parmenter and Mark Brace for their efforts in the culinary filed. Thanks also to Colin Griffiths for recording the finishers over a long period of time. A special thank you to Chris Thomas and Joe Hinchcliffe for their unstinting efforts in ferrying the sailors back and fore to their respective yachts. All in all, a great team effort resulting in a superbly successful and enjoyable event.

Saturday Junior Race Training

Several juniors are benefiting from Mark Dashfield's training session on Saturdays. They start at 1 pm - participating juniors and members please note. Thanks to Ed Dashfield and Tommy D'Ortez for running the session in Mark's absence last Saturday. Tomorrow (Saturday), Tommy will be in charge.

Junior Sail Training

The junior training programme is progressing well. Yet again last Wednesday saw a plethora of youngsters turning up to participate in the great conditions After a great evening's sailing, all enjoyed the universally-acclaimed Terry Evans BBQ. Many thanks to all who contribute to the success of the Wednesday sessions.   Adult Come and Try

Sunday saw a band of enthusiastic adults turned up suitably attired for the 'come and try' session carried forward from the 'gale' weekend. Several members turned up and took on the trainees in various craft. Ospreys, Mirrors, Toppers and yachts were all used. Conditions were ideal for learning which meant that the learners did not lose confidence. After the morning session, the trainees swapped boats so that they could experience how different boats handle and perform. At the end of the day, all the trainees were full of enthusiasm and hinted for another session. Many thanks to Blake Shaw for coordinating a most successful event.

Jam evening

The next jam session is scheduled for this Monday, June 16, at the usual time. Come down and listen to great music superbly delivered by musicians from afar and wide. It's the place to be!
