TENBY U14s 7 CAREW U14s 2

Tenby entertained Carew last Saturday at The Clicketts in the second round of the cup. The game started at a frantic pace, with neither side being able to put a hold on the game. The boys now started to apply constant pressure on the Carew goal, and after some persistent tackling by Patrick Roberts in the Carew penalty area, the ball eventually found the back of the net, with Patrick claiming the goal. Tenby now played with a little more confidence and began to pass the ball a lot better and as a result of good passing Keifer Thompson slammed home the second goal. The third goal was scored by Luke Arthur, who struck the ball fully 40 yards into the top corner. Keifer then scored his second goal and the team's fourth with a very good finish in the side netting. Just after the restart, Tenby introduced both substitutes into the game, namely Jordan Williams and Robert Jones. Jordan scored goal number five and then Chris Heesom, venturing forward from defence, scored number six. Carew were not to be outdone and scored two goals of their own, both from set-pieces. Toby Smith scored for Tenby near the end to make the final score 7-2. Tenby now progress into the semi-final of the cup as reward for a good team performance, albeit without two important squad members, namely James Howes and Jamie Williams, both suffering from injury, although James was at the game to support the team. Get better soon boys! Tenby squad: Richard Bridges, Luke Arthur, Thomas Nash, Chris Heesom, Will Hughes, Patrick Roberts, Toby Smith, Johnie Lammin, Rhys Winter, Daniel Mcdermott, Keifer Thompson, Jordan Williams and Robert Jones.

TENBY U11s 8 SAUNDERSFOOT U11s 1

Tenby entertained Saundersfoot in a hard-fought match. Tenby were full of intent, with midfielders Elliot Scotcher, Will Cowan and Greg Palin all passing well and creating numerous goal-scoring chances, Scotcher being first on the score sheet with a great shot off his left foot. Striker Owen Bateman was denied a goal by an excellent save by the Saundersfoot 'keeper, only for the ball to find defender Rob Luly, who thumped it in for the second -that will have cost his mum! Good Saundersfoot defending prevented Tenby scoring time after time, but Bateman did find his way through to score just before half-time. Tenby commenced the second half with renewed vigour and stamped their authority on the game. Palin's goal was quickly followed by another from Dan Storer who didn't waste an opportunity to play up front. Tenby's Shaun Lewis and Iwan Izzard played really well and prevented Saundersfoot breaking Tenby's defence, also providing quality ball for Billy Christopher and Cowan to score two beauties. Saundersfoot's Greg Caine scored a deserved goal in the latter stages, the ball sneaking between the goalie's feet. Another Greg - this time Palin - scored the eighth goal for Tenby on the final whistle.

PENNAR U15s 7 TENBY U15s 8

Pennar Under 15s entertained Tenby Under 15s in the Pembrokeshire League. The game was vital for both teams in the race for the league title. Both teams started brightly with attacks at both ends. The commitment shown by them both in the early few minutes showed this would be a spectacular game. After many promising attacks, Pennar opened the scoring after splitting the Tenby defence and leaving a one-on-one challenge with goalkeeper Richard Thomas. Tenby had to raise their level of play if they were to keep up with the phenomenal pace of Pennar's front line. After a cross from the left, defender Scott Helmich got away from his marker and slotted the ball into the back of the net with a finish fit for any striker. Soon after, Sam Christopher scored his first goal to put Tenby in front. After many battles in the midfield, Pennar's pacey attack once again broke through the Tenby defence and scored their second goal. Tenby now had to start from scratch, but after hard work and determination from the team, they broke through again, giving Mikey Boswell his first goal of the game. Soon after, on form Sam Christopher scored his second with another good finish. Pennar responded with four goals, which had Tenby going in at half-time 6-4 down. After a half-time talk from Angela Nicholls and Neil Finlay, the team returned to the field with their ears ringing. To save the game, Tenby had to show their now famous 'bouncebackability'. They did this with yet another goal from defender Scott Helmich, giving the players the confidence they needed to win this game. With the belief Tenby now had, they pressed forward into the Pennar penalty area where Mikey Boswell was brought down. The referee awarded a penalty and Mikey himself stepped up to place the ball into the corner of the goal, pulling Tenby level. The Tenby defence worked hard to cut out the well-executed attacks from the Pennar team, with goalkeeper Richard Thomas being forced to clear the ball on many occasions. Mikey Boswell then got the goal they thought would end the game. With five minutes remaining, Tenby only had to keep the ball, but they failed to do this and Pennar got yet another equaliser. Tenby then showed the true meaning of 'bouncebackability', with battles in midfield won by Adam Johns and Ashley James. The ball was then threaded through to Mikey Boswell, who converted the winning goal. When the final whistle went, it was a relief for the fans as well as the players. The game was recognised as the best Tenby have participated in this season, and they would not have argued if it had ended as a draw. Tenby squad: Richard Thomas (capt.), Kurt Walsh, Brett Evans, Sean Jones, Scott Helmich, Sam Christopher, Adam Johns, Aaron Goldsmith, Ashley James, Michael Halligan, Mikey Boswell. The Picnic Basket sponsored man-of-the-match, decided by the Tenby spectators, was Aaron Goldsmith.

TENBY U12s 7 HERBRANDSTON U12s 0

The Tenby Cycles and Skateboards sponsored Tenby Under 12s deservedly got the win that sees them remain top of the league over the Christmas period. League duties have now stopped until the New Year, but they will be in cup action, for the last game of this year, next week away to Johnston. Tenby got off to a brilliant start against Herbrandston when, after only two minutes, Jordan Richards gave the perfect pass to Josh Koop to hit an equally perfect shot past the visiting 'keeper. From the restart, the home 'keeper, Jake Roberts, saved well from a Herbie striker. The quick-thinking Roberts threw the ball wide to Alex Heesom, who made good ground into the opponents' half and his cross found the elusive Richards to make it two-nil. Herbrandston came back at Tenby with all guns blazing and Roberts had to make another important save to stop them breaching his goal. Richards had an effort well saved after Phil Horsley had put him clear and Curtis Hurlow saw his header go just wide following a Patrick Elliott corner. At the other end, a Herbie corner caused slight panic, but Nicky Jones's double block came to the rescue. The home side survived this mini crisis and calmly raced to the opposite end and added a third thanks to a good pass from Daniel Edwards to Ashley Smith, who then picked out Koop at the far post. Richards gave the red and blacks the perfect start, after the interval, and scored their fourth after beating three defenders and unleashing a low shot. Tenby then reshuffled their formation to enable Will Thomas and Loui Fecci to enter the fray. Herbrandston then had their best chance to score. Captain, Greg Lees-Griffiths, who had led by example throughout the match, slipped on the greasy surface, allowing the visiting striker a clear run at goal. However, Roberts made a super save with his legs, which allowed Fecci to clear and set up Smith, who picked out Richards to hit his third and Tenby's fifth. Ieuan Williams replaced Heesom and settled in at right back, linking well with Hurlow. Thomas used his height and strength to good effect in midfield and set up Koop to grab his hat-trick and Richards had the final say when Smith gave him the space to hit number seven. Smith, for all his hard work, found the back of the net, but unfortunately it was disallowed for offside. Another excellent team effort -well done lads! Tenby side: J. Roberts, N. Jones, P. Elliott, G. Lees-Griffiths, D. Edwards, C. Hurlow, A. Smith, P. Horsley, A. Heesom, J. Richards, J. Koop, W. Thomas, I. Williams, L. Fecci.

SAUNDERSFOOT U10s 0 TENBY U10s A 7

Tenby's self-appointed canine mascot started the action with a brief pre-match skirmish with a local and then the Londis at Manorbier Stores and Post Office sponsored team took to the large sloping pitch shrouded in Saturday morning gloom. Five minutes and Adam opened the scoring, slotting the ball home after a one-two exchange with Tom. A more physical game than encountered for a while, it was 2-0 at half-time, the second coming via a Jack cross, with Daniel's blond streak nodding the ball home. With quite a fragile lead, play became scrappy. A slippery ball didn't always make the feet it was intended to reach, tired legs missed the odd tackle, but hearts were still big! Hugo knocked home the third and a good solo effort from Elliot produced the fourth. The ever-present Daniel took number five, David number six and Sam popped up in midfield to feed through a great ball to David for the seventh. Maybe not Tenby's best game, but for some of the team it was their third competitive match (football and rugby) in six days, something highly-paid Premiership footballers would baulk at - especially the rugby. Coupled with thespian activities for most participants midweek (D'Arcy looking stunning in a blue ball gown and trainers), this was a game which tired young legs found difficult to control with their usual skills. After all, they are only nine and 10 years old, with commitment and belief belying their tender years. And they won! Thanks go to coaches Simon, Neil and Colin, supporters and sponsors and hosts Saundersfoot. Squad: Scott Cowan, Sam Butler, Toby Rossiter, Adam Conbeer, George Flockton (great game!), Hugo Wellum, Tom Koop (your goals will come!), Jack Murphy, Daniel Fairlie, Elliot Golds.

SOLVA UNDER 8s 0 TENBY UNDER 8s 6 A trip up the coast to Solva was rewarded with another high-scoring victory for Tenby Under 8s on Saturday morning. Tenby went straight on the attack from the kick-off, and Scott Ferney almost opened the scoring in the first minute, but his shot was deflected for a corner. A good run down the right by Charlie Flockton soon led to a second corner. It was taken long and fell to James Brace, who chipped in at the far post to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Tenby immediately went looking for a second, and following another corner, Declan Escott added to his tally for the season with a simple tap-in. Assured handling and some excellent saves from Solva's 'keeper kept the score respectable, and his long kicks helped to launch several counter-attacks for the home side. Solva almost grabbed a goal back when their striker cut in from the left and ran through the Tenby defence, only to be thwarted by an excellent save by 'keeper, Daniel Evans. The home side were unlucky to go further behind just before half-time when a defender deflected the ball away from his goalkeeper and Spencer Williams pounced to make it 3-0 for Tenby. Solva continued to compete well at the start of the second-half, but Owen Coombs and Adam Muskett were rock solid at the back for Tenby. They covered every Solva move, made several timely tackles and cleared strongly. As the half progressed, Tenby took control of the midfield, passing the ball confidently, and releasing Jannik Coop and Scott Ferney for a series of attacking runs. And it was no surprise when Declan Escott put in goal number four with a long, low shot from 10 yards. Two minutes later, Tom Harries broke from midfield. His shot was parried and span off both posts, before Spencer Williams popped up again to slot home number five. Tenby continued to pass well and create chances, and when a cross from the left was knocked through to Tom Harries, he made no mistake, thumping the ball home to make the final score 6-0. Following the main match, other members of the Tenby and Solva squads joined in a friendly which ended in a very evenly-matched draw. Thanks to all the players and parents who made the trip to Solva for two great games. Thanks also to Park Road Fish and Chips, sponsors of the Tenby Under 8s kit.
