TENBY U16s 4
CAREW U16s 0
With league runners-up spot now out of their grasp after their loss at Milford, would the T. P. Hughes sponsored Tenby U16s be able to pick themselves up against old rivals Carew for this local derby, their penultimate junior league game? This time the absence of the 'Colorado Four' on the piste, necessitated yet more changes, but Tenby were still confident of victory.
A scrappy start was quickly forgotten as Hugo found the back of the net and Tenby settled well, controlling the game. A typically well-struck corner for the seasiders was perfectly judged by Sam in the box heading Tenby's second and giving them a comfortable cushion at half-time.
In the second half there was more of the same, with the home team players all having good games and enjoying the friendly atmosphere against their schoolmates. Carew threatened occasionally and never gave up, but Tenby extended their dominance with two further goals, the first a Goldie header and the second from Hugo after Jordan's classy lay-off.
And so to the final league game with the arrival of St. Clears to The Clicketts on a lovely Monday evening, a fitting last fixture as they have been playing St. Clears since their U7s days!
With the piste still claiming the 'Colorado Four' and the 'Cyprus One' on a beach, it was good to see David off the golf course and back in the left-back position, which he has been filling to much acclaim this season.
For the first 20 minutes, this looked a game too much for the Tenby team and it took Nathan, closely followed by Adie, to start the goals coming. The score was 2-0 at half-time.
In the second half, Hugo at last curled in a corner and the floodgates opened. Jordan scored two, Sam headed one, Adie completed his hat-trick and Hugo got the final goal - a comprehensive 9-1 victory.
Thanks to coaches John, John and Neil, Andy on the line, kit sponsors T. P. Hughes and Jameston Village Stores and the touchline support.
But the biggest thanks go to this season's squad: George McBeth, Corey Hill, Cheyne Lloyd, Tom Grover, Sam Butler (c), David Webb, Hugo Wellum, Toby Rossiter, Joe Worley, Elliot Goldsmith, James Adie, Callum Greer, Jack Murphy, George Lander, Matt Davies, Nathan Farmiloe, Jordan Boswell.
Johnston U14s 0 Tenby U14s 8
Park Road Fish and Chip sponsored Tenby U14s continued to accumulate points in the league at Johnston on Saturday with their third away win in six days.
Having gained confidence from winning two challenging midweek games at Carew (5-1) and West Dragons (7-0), Tenby were in fine form against Johnston.
Despite propping up the Pembrokeshire League, the home side defended resoloutely for the opening quarter-of-an-hour, while Tenby patiently controlled possession and waited for a chance to break the deadlock.
Sammy Smith, Ben Roberts and Scott Ferney all had chances early on, and Adam Muskett made a couple of nice runs from right back, while Johnston were happy just to clear the ball downfield and ease the pressure.
With Tenby centre backs Owen Coombs and Callum Steele winning everything in the air, and switching play quickly from left to right, Johnston were hemmed back. And as Tenby's passing moves gathered in pace, a flurry of goals came at the end of the first half.
Lloyd Hughes opened the scoring with two finely taken goals in quick succession. A third soon followed after Adam John adeptly controlled a high ball in midfield, and quickly found Declan Escott. His first-time pass released Scott Ferney, who fired low and hard into the bottom corner. Ferney then added a fourth, sealing victory before the interval.
To Johnston's credit, they continued to battle in the second half, as Tenby peppered the goal with shot after shot. Luke Hartland came on in centre midfield, and Declan Escott pushed forward.
After a series of good saves by the Johnston 'keeper, Tenby finally went five up from a Callum Steele header. An Adam John header at the far post then added a sixth, after a deep cross from Declan Escott.
Ben Roberts made a great break down the right and rippled the back of the net with Tenby's seventh. Another great move led to the final goal. Great movement and quick one touch passes from Callum Steele, Owen Coombs and Spencer Willams, created acres of space for a low cross from the left, giving unmarked Lloyd Hughes a tap-in at the far post.
Johnston almost pinched one back with a long range effort on the break late on, but aside from that Tenby 'keeper Will Davies had little to do.
Dan Evans came on up front in the closing minutes and showed some nice touches on the ball as Tenby closed out the game.
