A Tenby councillor has questioned why the seaside town’s pedestrianisation scheme, seemingly started earlier this season - three weeks before the start of Wales’ school summer holidays.

At this month’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Cllr Laura Crockford asked her fellow members if dates had been extended and will they keep on being extended in the future.

She felt that this was the earliest start of the scheme she had seen.

The scheme started on Monday, July 1 and runs until Friday, September 13, with traffic movements restricted between 11am and 5.30pm each day.

Cllr Laurence Blackhall explained that he believed that the pedestrianisation start and finish times used to be aligned with Long Course Weekend and Ironman Wales, starting the day after LCW and ending the Friday before Ironman.

However, as these events move in the calendar due to tide times it was decided to assign set start and finish dates.

The Town Clerk believed these now to be the first Monday in July and second Friday in September, pointing out that, if pedestrianisation was still aligned to the two events this year it would have started a week before the end of June and not conclude until nearly the end of September.
