A concert in Tenby to celebrate St David’s Day has helped raise funds for a local worthy cause.

On Thursday, March 2 St John’s Church hosted the concert, with the place packed with nearly one hundred choristers, just leaving enough space for the audience!

Taking part were The Quaynotes Choir (MD Mark Thompson), The Griffon Choir (MD Phyl Williams), St Mary's Church Choir (MD Mark Thompson) and Tenby Male Choir (MD Paul Rapi).

Each choir performed three pieces which included works by John Rutter, Sioned Williams, S S Wesley and Caradog Roberts.

Interspersed with the choirs were solos from Tenby’s Mayor, Sam Skyrme-Blackhall (herself a member of St Mary's Church Choir) and readings from Dylan Thomas by town clerk, Andrew Davies.

All choristers joined in the singing of Guide me, O Thou Great Redeemer and Calon Lan and the evening finished with the national anthems.

There was a wonderful feeling of togetherness which compere Adrian Davies said had been missing over the covid years.

All the choristers agreed that it was so good to be singing together again and the enthusiastic audience members expressed the hope that it might turn into an annual event.

There was no admission charge but donations totalled £452 which has been donated to the PATCH charity, with volunteers at the Tenby depot based at the Old Chapel on Lower Frog Street, receiving the donation. A marvellous result from a superb evening’s entertainment!

Thanks are due to everyone involved in organising the concert, everyone who took part, and went along to show their support.

Thanks also goes to St Johns Church who would not accept even a contribution towards the heating costs for the evening.
