Members of Tenby Civic Society have welcomed news that extra train services will be provided for the seaside town ahead of the summer holiday season.
“We have just been informed by Transport for Wales of the following - two extra return train services will operate Monday to Friday between Tenby and Carmarthen from May 19 for the summer period,” the Civic Society shared.
“Trains will depart Tenby at 10.40 and 14.39 and from Carmarthen at 09.56 and 13.55. These services will operate non-stop between Tenby and Whitland and are in addition to the normal two hourly services.”

As part of the latest Draft Regional Transport Plan, members also welcomed news of an increase on the Pembroke Dock line.
“Also included is the increase to one train per hour on the Pembroke Dock line. We understand that some alterations are required to, inter alia, two level crossings which will then forego trains having to slow down. We hope this proposal will start to win back more passengers,” they stated.
In preparation of a new commemorative plaque, Tenby Civic Society have also bought a new planter for the railway station, which was recently delivered by the team from Norman Industries who made it.
Plans for a new disability-friendly railway bridge at Tenby train station were recently submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

Network Rail’s application seeks permission for the installation of an access for all footbridge and associated works at the Grade-II-listed Victorian station.
“Although Tenby Station is wheelchair assessable it is not compliant with the Equality Act 2010, and the platform 1 is only accessible for wheelchairs via an unmanned barrow crossing. The station is unstaffed, and therefore any assistance is provided by the train crew,” states the application, which will be considered by PCNPA planners at a later date.
