The Giltar Hotel, Tenby, was the venue again this year for the annual dinner and presentation evening of Tenby and District Air Training Corps. Present among the 130 guests attending the dinner were Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, the Mayor designate, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, together with representatives of Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions, Rotary Club, Masons, RAFA, and many other honoured guests and parents, particularly Lieutenant Commander Tom Peake and his wife, Margaret. The evening started with a short address by the squadron's Officer Commanding, Flt. Lt. Dave Griffiths, who welcomed all attending, especially Wing Commander Rob Lewis and his wife (Officer Commanding No. 3 Welsh Wing), including officers from squadron's throughout the Welsh Wing. The Officer Commanding thanked all his staff and the civilian committee for all their hard work. He went on to say how well the squadron had done during the past year and spoke about their involvement in several community projects, their success in sporting events, and how flying, shooting and adventure training had featured well throughout the year as shown by the high number of Duke of Edinburgh and other awards gained. The squadron's civilian committee chairman, Mr. Don Griffiths MBE, spoke for a few minutes, recalling some of the squadron's outstanding achievements over the last few years and how several of the squadron's cadets had gone on to join the armed services, gaining success in their chosen fields. The guest speaker was the Rev. Michael John, who gave a very interesting and thought-provoking speech that was well received by all present. He then went on to present the evening's awards. First were the Duke of Edinburgh awards to Cdt. Laura Scarrot, Cpl. Lucy Ives, Cdt. Randel Turner, Cdt. Lucian Coates, Cdt. Hannah O'Neil, Cdt. Jarrod Coates, Cdt. Katrina Smith, Cpl. Ben Cole. Awards for first class examination passes were then presented to Cdt. Lucian Coates, Cdt. Jarrod Coates, Cdt. Hannah O'Neil, Cdt. Laura Scarrot, Cdt. Katrina Smith, Cdt. Katie Thomas. Daniel Bonser. Flt. Lt. D. Evans Cup for sport - Cdt. Sophie Stanford. No. 3 Welsh Wing swimming trophy - Cdt. Sophie Stanford. Fred Young Trophy for best junior NCO - Cpl. Ben Cole. Tom Winfer Following the awards, all retired to the bar and dance area where the guests, parents and cadets celebrated and danced the rest of the evening away to a disco.
